This is an intermediate pattern. Basic quilt making and embroidery skills are assumed. Every effort has been made to insure these Instructions are complete and accurate. SUPPLY LIST

  • 3/4 YARD RED TOWELING
  • 8.5” x 27” CREAM WOOL
  • 6.5 x 8.5” RED WOOL
  • 1.5” x 1.5” BLACK WOOL
  • 1” x 1.5” ORANGE WOOL
  • Cream, red, black and orange floss FRAY CHECK

INSTRUCTIONS

Make 16 Pennies (2 of each design)

  • Cut cream pennies. Use freezer paper for these. Do not use fusible web.
  • Cut red pennies. It is OK to use fusible web for these.
  • Cut small cream snowflake circles. It is OK to use fusible web for these.
  •  Sew the red penny to the large cream penny with 2 strands of cream floss using a blanket stitch. Sew the small cream pennies to the center of the red pennies with 2 strands of cream floss using a blanket stitch.
  • Embroider the snowflakes to the red pennies with 2 strands of cream floss. The lines are straight stitches, the circles are French knots wrapped twice. Farmhouse Threads Snowman Runner - icon are lazy daisies with 2 strands of cream floss.
  • Sew a plain beige penny to the back of a snowflake penny only on half of the penny. Use 2 strands of red floss with a blanket stitch. Farmhouse Threads Snowman Runner - icon 1
  • Cut the raw edges of the toweling with a sharp rotary cutter so they are squared with a straight cut. Apply fray check to the cut edge of the toweling so it doesn’t fray.
  • Lay 8 snowflake pennies on each end of the runner so that the unstitched half is on the runner with the snowflake side on the top of the runner and the plain side on the back of the runner. When they are in position, pin into place and finish the blanket stitch on the pennies with 2 strands of red floss.
  •  Cut remaining shapes and attach to the front of the runner. Use the chart on this page for stitching.
