- 1 x Left hand side Mirror insert top support bracket
- 1 x Right hand side Mirror insert top support bracket
- 2 x Lower Threaded mirror insert mount brace
TOOLS REQUIRED
- Phillips Head Screw Driver
INSTALLATION
- Using the interior electric controls, move the mirror into a neutral position (Center). This will help with sliding the mirror insert under the new top support bracket later.
Note: In some instances it can be easier to tilt the mirror up to give you more room to see the bottom slot into place.
- Using a Phillips head screw driver, remove the screw holding the mirror insert into the mirror housing. This screw can be accessed rom the hole at the bottom oF the plastic mirror outer housing.
- Remove the mirror housing and remove the 3 wires, noting the location of each wire. Next remove the top two Phillips head screws as shown in the image to the right.
- Inspect the lower threaded mount. If the plastic is cracked but still intact proceed to step 5a. If the thread is destroyed or plastic is missing proceed to step 5b.
- a. Place the lower threaded mount brace onto the mirror insert and proceed to step 6.
b. If the lower threaded mount is destroyed, cross threaded or has chunks of plastic missing you will have to place the lower threaded mount brace around the mount and fix the lower threaded mounting hole.
Due to the variation of damage that can occur, this fix will come to your discretion. When fitting these kits to customers cars we have found the best option is to drill the threaded hole out bigger if the thread is intact and fill it with a plastic filler such as JB Weld. Once set, this allows you to drill a new hole for the lower threaded screw mount. If chunks of the plastic mount are missing, the brace can act as formwork for you to fill the center with plastic filler and drill a new mounting hole.
Once this step is completed proceed to step 6. - Inspect the (3) ball joints on the back of the mirror housing for movement. These are the motorised arms that move the position of your mirror electronically from inside the cab.
If there is movement this can also add to the mirror shake, this will have to be fixed. In most instances the plastic ball cup retainer fatigues and is displaced when disassembling the mirror, but can still be clicked back into place with slight pressure.
- Re-using the two screws removed in step 3, attach the top support bracket ensuring you have the right side.
Note: The longer leg on the back of the top support bracket should be closest to the door with the logo facing outwards.
- Reattach the 3 wires to the mirror insert.
- Insert the top of the mirror insert first, on an angle until it is underneath the top support bracket. Once the insert is slipped underneath the top support bracket, push the bottom of the mirror insert into place above the cast mounting hole.
Note: This can be a bit fiddly as it is designed to be a tight fit to reduce mirror shake as much as possible.
- Once the mirror insert is back in place, the lower screw can be reattached from underneath to hold the insert in place.
- Repeat steps 1-10 for the opposite side mirror. Once completed, crack open a cold one (not essential but highly recommended) and enjoy having functional mirrors again!
